Fish rich in mercury - Such fish are usually found in polluted water. Mercury is a toxic element and concentrated amounts of this can prove to be dangerous for the nervous system, immune system and kidneys. Some examples of high-mercury fish include shark, swordfish, king mackerel and tuna.
•Undercooked or raw meat - Eating meat that has not been cooked properly increases the risks of various bacterial and parasitic infections. This can prove to be quite harmful to the baby and also increase the risks of stillbirth, neurological problems, blindness, epilepsy etc. You should also avoid eating processed meat unless it has been heated properly.
•Raw eggs - Avoid food products like salad dressings, homemade ice-cream, homemade mayonnaise, poached eggs etc that contain raw eggs. There are significant risks of raw eggs being contaminated with Salmonella. The infection only affects the mother; however, it can lead to complications during childbirth leading to premature or stillbirth.
•Caffeine - The caffeine you take very easily passes into the placenta and fetus. Since the growing child does not have the enzymes to metabolize this caffeine, it starts building up in unhealthy quantities, thereby hindering fetal growth and development.
