Timer has been set with date of program erroneously in 2012 and cannot be cancelled as power will not come on as long as timer is set.

I'm sorry for the difficulties you're experiencing in resetting the Timer on the VCR. Please unplug the unit from wall outlet for more than 5 minutes to perform a power resetting and it will resolve the issue.
