SOURCE: The automatic cable rewind on my Morphy Richards

Hi Not really. It means that the cord has been pulled roughly when its been plugged in and the retracter is getting weaker to hold the cord that has been pulled out. Generally though wipe the entire cord from the end of the machine with a dry cloth and some furniture polish. This will clean the cord and add some resistance to the retractor that could minimise the cord flowing back into the vacuum.

SOURCE: vacuum cleaner not picking up

My M.R. cleaner had the same problem. I found the drive belt for the beater bar was broke.
Turn the cleaner over when running and if the beater isn't turning, then the belts gone.
New belts on E-Bay £4-$7 for 2.

Here are a few tips to try before you call a repair service.

Most people think that putting their vacuum on the lowest setting picks up the most dirt. If you have medium to shag carpet, putting it on the lowest setting will only flatten your carpet and burn out your machine. If you have yours set to the lowest setting, the reaon it may be cutting out while using it on your carpet might be due to over heating. When it cools down, it can be used again.

If you do not remove the hair and strings in the beater bar everytime you use your machine, they will also cause it to over heat. Turn your machine over, get a pair of scissors and remove everything that is holding back the beater bar. Long hair and strings will kill a vacuum and it wont take long either!

If you leave your machine full of dirt and debris and do not empty it after using it - this will also cause it to over heat. Take a look at your bag or cup that collects the dirt picked up from the floor. How full is it? Never let it get past 3/4 full. The more you empty it the healthier the machine.

Try removing the string and hair from the brush, emptying the bag or cup and then change the setting to a minimum of medium before trying it again. If this does not solve your problem, then call a repair man.
