My Aprilaire 800 humidifier makes an audible gurgling sound that carries throughout the house. It can be heard through the vents and sounds like boiling water. Makes sense because it's a steam humidifier, but had never made this sound before. When I turn the dial down, it stops.
Mine was doing the same thing...first month of operation (installed toward end of heating season) = no problems with noise (bubbling, gurgling) though the duct work - started second year toward middle of season. Now its been running for a few weeks and is intolerable. I dug out owners manual and it did not address this at all. I dug out the installation manual and viola! Gurgling is caused by excess condensation in the steam hose. Sure enough the steam hose had a small area depression and did NOT have the constant downward slope necessary - installation instructions are VERY specific about needing a slope in order to allow condense to drain from the steam house. The zip-tie installation had slide down from a vertical stabilizing pipe & allowed for the hose to sag in the middle (nice install job slacker). I adjusted it and the SOUND IS GONE. Hope this helps someone else.

I have had a similar issue since I installed the unit.
I added an Aprilaire 865 humidifier with a fan pack, and it makes a gurgling and bubbling noise. I initially installed the unit without the p-trap drain pipe, and Aprilaire advised me to install one, which I did. Frankly, I can't tell much difference after installing it. The photos are my current installation. I am running the unit on the 240V 16amp setting with water pulling from my water softener using the standard 80 canister. The steam line runs about 8 feet vertically up to the fan pack, from where it goes into the wall in a 1' copper insulated pipe. The interesting thing I have found is if I run the drain cycle by turning the unit off and back on, the unit does not gurgle for approximately 24 hrs. I have tried pluming with and without the water softener with little change in the gurgling noise. I have also run the unit on the 240V 16amp and 240V 11.5amp settings with little change.
I have had a half dozen conversations with Aprilaire support with little help. The solution they have offered is to make the steam pipe out of the unit, which is not steep enough, but it meets their instructions. They have also suggested I connect the steam hose to the top of the Tee vs. the side of the Tee. With the pipe to the fan pack coming out of the side of the Tee. I can't see how this will make things better. Before I re-plumb the unit for a 4th time, I wanted to see if anyone else has a suggestion to resolve the problem.

the gurgling noise is the water going into the base. since you haven't used it in so long your going to hear some weird noises at first then they should go away. but before using it make sure that all dust particals and everything is cleaned. if you have any more problems please let us know.
