My kaeboard has been near ab AC unit for a week. Has this made my notes on the keyboard go oiut of tune?
No, but the pitch bend control can do that.
I should add that if only a few keys are affected, they may have some condensation from the Air conditioning, which may have corroded the contacts a little bit on those keys.
The stability of the electronics used for these is quite good, so if it has a few keys that are acting up, you might try just excercising those keys to clean up the contacts. You might also put a regular fan blowing across the keys to make sure there is no liquid condensation remaining.
Somewhat doubtful in most conventional respects, but even lightning can strike the same place multiple times if conditions are jsut right..
If you look at the master oscillator IC- essentially the large IC with about 40 pins. There will be a block of 12 resistors of the same color code. These would be the note resistors. The AC in itself should not have had any effect on them, however it is possible the AC accelerated something that may have been inevitable- corrosion on a marginal solder connetction.
I know how many screws there are holding those together, not to mention those holding the keys and circuit boards in place- it looks devastating to see them opened up when working on them, but it really is not that bad as long as you do not force anything, do not rush. Use the electric screw driver to remove the screws only.
But- the process of reflowing the solder to make sure the connections are good is quite simple. and does not take long at all. While it is not essential to have a grounded tip soldering iron, you can schieve a deent ground by wrapping a bare wire around the conductive barrrel of the soldering iron with bare wire connected to the grounding screw of an electric outlet- namely the screw that holds the cover plate on- it is supposed to be grounded if of fairly recent construction. This will protect in most cases any potential static discharge. If you have cats- lock them inthe bathroom for the duration. The same with any dogs,
The way Yamaha processes the sounds- the notes are those 12 inputs to the chip. The 5 octaves covered by your piano/synth are divided in that chip to the various octaves- so one marginal solder connection on one lead of one resistor can make all your A flats even flatter and off.
If it is under warranty still, Yamaha should honor it. Being in front of an air conditioner should not be considered abuse. As all it did was reveal a flaw that would have developed anyway.

In playing fast you have to make sure to release the note fully and let the key come up. These keys have TWO contacts that are used in the scheme to measure note velocity. If BOTH contacts don't open, the note will NOT re-fire. The second symptom you have written would be a characteristic if one of the disconnect diodes has shorted. These diodes direct the strobe signals that scan the matrix of key contacts to avoid other octaves responding when multiple keys are depressed including those in other octaves. Servicing of the unit is required. It is unlikely you have the tools to DIY this problem. ONE THING to try is to tip the unit and gently tap it to see if some debris MIGHT have fallen in that may be shorting some of the matrix connections.

My yamaha mm6 has all the A flat keys out of tune and the d notes...Did this AC unit damage all thesae keys?
