Um, I turn mine on and it says "Refresh Database" and slowly fades to black? What do I do?
Get the latest firmware
My computer died while sending files to player, and now the refresh database screen appears on the player and it do nothing. I hope that removing battery will help. I can't even connect it to a computer in normal mode, it connects in recovery mode, but I can't update firmware then. I will write if something will help.

I called the technical support. He told me the following steps: 1. turn the player off. 2. switch the "hold" button ( on top) to see the orange area 3. keep pushing the "Rec" button and connect the player to the computer in the same time. 4. the player will come to recovery mode. 5.detach the connection with computer 6. release "Rec" button and let it turn off automatically 7. turn on the player. It should be fine. But for my case, it doesn't work. Then he asked me to remove the back cover of the player to take out the battery for one hour. Then repeat the same procedures. I am doing so now. Hope it works.
Dear users of this player, this problem appers to be the common one. This is the best and easiest solution of the problem : 1.Change USB mode to MSC( in Menu->Settings->USB mode->MSC in order to make your player work as a flash drive. 2.Connect it to the computer using the cord. 3.Right click on the appeaed Sansa e260 in drives list and choose FORMAT( FAT32 ). Don't be afraid that system files will be deleted, they are protected. This may help:)

e-mail sansa...go to the website...inform them and they will reply. You will need to reformat your sansa. Once they reply back you, they will redirect you to a location on their website for a program to download to fix your sansa. Ofter I did that, it worked perfectly fine after that.
This is the comment I revieved back from SanDisk

If it's currently frozen, hold down the power button for 20 seconds in order to soft reset it.
Please change the device mode to MSC (Mass Storage Class) if your device in MTP (Media Transfer Protocol). To do this, from your player. Go to Menu > Settings > USB >
The two options are MSC and AUTO DETECT (MTP): select MSC
Let's try to format the player (THIS WILL ERASE ALL FILES FROM THE PLAYER). Plug it into your computer, then open My Computer, right-click the drive associated with the player, and choose Format. It may give you a choice of file system, if so, choose FAT (it may only let you choose FAT32, which is fine). Now click on Start and it should format the player.
If not already done, please also update the firmware from this link:
