How to move icons from left side to bottom of screen
On all windows apart from Windows 8, you drag them from the desktop (left hand side) to the bottom (taskbar) with the mouse.

If the taskbar gets full up the icons might disappear.
The double bar at the end of the taskbar must be moved to the right for more of the taskbar to appear.

Lock icons on my gateways computer
Are you talking about the Desktop Icons? Assuming you are, right click on an empty space on the Desktop, click on View, and put a check by Align Icons To Grid. If you are talking about the Taskbar...right click on an empty space on the Taskbar, and then put a check mark by Lock Taskbar...now all your icons are in prison.

Move taskbar to bottom
Right click on taskbar

Make sure "LOCK THE TASKBAR" is UNchecked.

Left click (and hold left button down) on center of taskbar and drag to bottom center.

I have a computer with Windows 7. I can't see my desktop icons nor my start menu!

Right click on the desktop, in that window go to View in there Click on Shoe Desktop Icons in that same Window go down to Personalization in part of the Control Panel in there go down to the left hand Corner and there you will find Taskbar and Start Menu Click on that and Click on Lock the Taskbar and Taskbar Location on Screen: pick Bottom.

The start button is found in the upper part of the screen
Your taskbar may have been unlocked and moved to the top of your desktop. I'll continue under that assumption.
  1. Right-click on your taskbar. If checked, un-check 'Lock the Taskbar'. Otherwise, skip to Step 3.
  2. Left-click on your taskbar and drag it to the bottom of your desktop. This is the original position of the taskbar.
  3. Right-click on your taskbar. Check 'Lock the Taskbar'. (OPTIONAL)

On my Vista desktop, the start/taskbar shows up on the right side when it used to be along the bottom of the screen. why did it move and how can i get it back to the bottom?
First, right-click the taskbar. If "Lock the Taskbar" has a check mark next to it, the taskbar is locked. You can unlock it by clicking "Lock the Taskbar" again. Then, click an empty space on the taskbar, hold and drag the taskbar to one of the four edges of the desktop. When the taskbar is where you want it, release the mouse button.

You have only increased your taskbar size, don't worry...
Right-click on an empty part of the taskbar, and ensure the "lock the taskbar" is unchecked. Next, position your mouse right on the top edge of the taskbar, your mouse should change to two black opposing pointing arrows. Hold left-click, and drag the taskbar down.
This will reduce the taskbar back to the way you're used to.

TASKBAR PROBLEM
*Right click the taskbar and make sure the "Lock the Taskbar" option is NOT ticked

click and hold a blank space of the taskbar and move the cursor to where you would like it to be sitting so if you would like it to run across the bottom of the screen move the cursor while still holding down to the bottom of the screen, this should make it look more like what it should :)
