    I have the same problem - just installed new printer cartridges. It's telling me to consult the user guide but I can't find it.

    I cleaned the contacts did not work changed the cartridge it worked

Error 1203 is an issue that occurs either when a cartridge is bad or the printer cartridge Slot is bad... I would request you to try cleaning the copper contacts of the both carts and cart slot in the printer and try again.. 
If that doesnt work just call up their support number and check for replacement.. 


Note: Refilling carts may damage the contacts of the carts as well as the printer.

Printer says cartridge error: error 1203
Remove both ink cartridges and check the bottoms to be sure all of the tap is removed. Small pieces of tape frequently are stuck to the cartridge bottom causing errors. Confirm you have the correct cartridges (# 34 for Black(HIGHYIELD) and #33 for color). Reseat the cartridges and try again.

Error 1203
Error 1203 means that there is no cartridge attached to the printer head. However, there are some cases when this error message appears because the cartridge is not attached properly to the printer. Try to print but i get a messege that reads error 1203
Hi!

Error 1203 means that the cartridges have a bad circuit. Try another set and see if the error message is still there.
If the error message is still there then it means your cartridges overflow even if they are brand new or after a several prints. Check to see if ink is smeared on the holder where the panel contacts with the cartridges. Use the Kleenex with a few drops of water to dampen and clean off those contacts on the holder. Make sure that you don’t left any debris of Kleenex on holder contact panel. If the cartridges are refilled then it works very well if you let it sit for more than 2 hrs. Then before you print anything, you should run align and clean the cartridges a couple of times. Now print a test page to check whether the error message is gone.

I am getting a message error 1203
Try this first see if it will help.

ERROR 1203 LEXMARK ERROR 1200 Error 1203 is an issue that occurs either when a cartridge is bad or the printer cartridge Slot is bad...

1 - try cleaning the copper contacts of the both carts and cart slot in the printer and try again..
or
2 - when error shows up, shut the printers power off; wait one minute and turn it back on press copy.
