When i push the ps button my screen goes black and locks up and i cant do anything but shut it off?

Back up your system using the backup utility ( ONLY if you have saved games, pics, video, etc. that you wanna keep)

Go to SETTINGS, SYSTEM SETTINGS, RESTORE PS3

That's the first thing you should try.
