I got an IBM Thinkpad T30 from a friend of mine. I installed a Clean version of Win XP and got everything working. Now as I'm using the computer the screen goes black for a moment and when it comes back up the graphics are garbled and fuzzy then the system restarts itself... never seen anything like it. HELP PLEASE!!
1. Go to Microsoft Update, search for updates and install all you can find there. Reboot. Go back there, then start detection, then in the left panel, choose hardware and install all you can find there.
2. Go to IBM support web site and get the latest drivers for you graphic adapter. You could also get the most recent drivers for you ATI Radeon graphic adapter from ATI.com.
3. I also recomment that you update your bios and install all the latest drivers (chipset, etc)
Your system could be a bit corrupted because it is the way Windows sometime works ;) Thank you Bill
1. So start by a good full data backup (verified), of coarse.
2. Then you could use the restore disks that came with your Laptop!
3. Then http://update.microsoft.com, personalized, on the left choose optional and hardware too and get all you can, reboot, and go back there a much time as necessary, until there is nothing anymore to get from there.
4. Go get all the latest drivers and patches from ibm.com.
5. Get the most recent drivers from ati.com
6. Get the latest chipset .inf files from Intel.com
7. Install a good and up-to-date anti-virus
http://free.avg.com
http://avira.com
Also install Windows Defender from http://download.microsoft.com
8. Restore your backup manually
9. Pray!
10. Pray much more! and be lucky!
After all that, you will probably want to change your pc because by the time you did all that, it became obsolete.
