How do i remove the cpu - Computers & Internet

Open the case, remove the cpu cooling fan, then remove the cpu itself.
Under the cpu you will see many small pins. Cut off the one closest to the bottom left. This will permanently remove your SMPS so be sure before proceeding.

If there is no activity when you power up then it could be the CPU.
Remove the CPU and check the CPU to see if you have not bent any pins. The CPU can only be installed in one position.
The CPU when removed usually sticks to the heatsink.
The CPU should be removed off the heatsink.
The CPU is locked onto the CPU chip holder, lift the locking level up to release the CPU or there may be a locking screw instead of a lever. Turn the screw anti-clockwise to release the CPU lock.
Insert the CPU in the chip holder and lock the CPU in place. If it a screw lock then turn the screw clockwise to lock the CPU in place.
Smear some fresh heat sink compound on the CPU and heatsink and place and then lock the heatsink in place.

Your Laptop seems to be full of dust - Maybe your CPU Heat sink FAN cannot turn because if this THUS causing your laptop to heat up and shut down again to prevent your CPU from receiving damage due to high temperature.

Close your laptop lid, then put the unit on its backlcd. Make sure you disconnect the Battery and the A/C Power chord. With the emty battery slot is facing you, take note of the screw that is facing you to the right on the bottom cover. There might be others like this in the same area. The cover that you need to remove is of rectangular shape, and the largest cover.

When you have removed it you should see the CPU Heat sink and a FAN. This is the part where you blow the unit out at that spot with compressed air so that the dirt will no longer block the heat from venting away from the laptop mainboard/cpu.Please check if the CPU FAN is still turning licenly. If it doesn't turn or very difficult - replace .

Then, remove the 3 screws from the CPU heat sink and thereby remove the HEAT sink completely. Remove the CPU Heat sink FAN and clean it as nessesary. Use a small flat to switch the CPU from closed to open and remove it. Then clean it with a cloth and ethanol - make sure you remove all dirt and old heat sink paste on top if it. make sure you do not touch the bottom of the CPU and handle the pins carefully.

When you are done, place the CPU back and reaaply a eyedrop of fresh heatsink paste onto the CPU, lock the CPU switch again. Then clean the backside of the CPU heat sink where it rests on the CPU. When you are done with that, place the CPU heat sink back onto the CPU then screw the 3 screws back onto the CPU heat sink and onto the mainboard. Keep the sequence in mind. Reconnect the CPU Heat sink FAN to power on the mainboard with the cable then place the cover back onto it. Tighten all screws again and reconnect battery and A/C Power chord.

To remove the motherboard you need to remove power from the back, lay the computer on it's side, wear an anti-ESD wrist strap, remove the left side cover (looking from back of computer). Mark and record all connections (a video helps while you disassemble). Pull all connectors off by grabbing connector NOT wires. Some have locks. Remove all adapter cards (little circuit boards plugged in motherboard). Remove RAM by pushing on locks on each end. Remove the CPU fan and heat sink but PULL UPP CAREFULLY in case CPU stays attached. If cpu is still in socket, carefully lift locking lever and lift cpu straight up. Remove all screws. Board will need to slide forward slightly to get out of case. Take old board to store to make of proper replacement and take cpu also. Both should be in anti-static bags but DO NOT use ziplock bags. Install in reverse BUT cpu should fall into socket WITHOUT pushing, it has one corner of pins different from others. Make sure that you have wrist ******** at all times working inside the tower. You probably removed the "primary" CPU,
and the computer cannot operate only with the "secondary" CPU installed.

Move the CPU from the "secondary" slot to the "primary" slot.

then remove the silver part this is held on with clips
gentley remove the cpu and replace new one THE RIGTH WAY look for the corners on the cpu to mach up on the board

There are several types of CPU fan / Heatsink assymblies on the market these days, usually there is a lever, or two on either side of the fan that tension the fan and heatsink to the CPU socket. Once released the fan/heatsink should come off as a single unit. Sometimes you may need to gently " wiggle " the fan/heatsink in a rotating motion to loosen it from the CPU thermal grease.

Once the fan/heatsink is removed, the CPU slot will have a single lever on one side, this can be lifted, and the CPU should come out of the socket.

Remember to gently place the new CPU into the socket, it should only seat properly one way, so remember to note how the original CPU was seated.

Apply a very thin film of thermal grease to the top of the CPU*, and re-attach the cooling fan / heatsink unit.

*Thermal grease is quite inexpensive, and easy to apply, put a small dab in the center of the top of the CPU, and with a small flat piece of plastic such as an old credit card, smooth the grease out and spred it to the edges of the raised surface of the CPU.

My recommendations would be to remove all connections to the board.
Remove the CMOS battery.
Remove the CPU fan and CPU.
Look at the top of the CPU, if you have a crust over the top of the CPU, you will need to remove it to a clean surface.
Next, your CPU fan should be a 3 wire connection on the motherboard, within two inchs of the CPU holder.
After cleaning the CPU, re-inseart and apply a heat sink lub for good heat transfer.
Re-install CPU fan and plug in to board connection.
Re-install your CMOS battery and power up unit.

With the CMOS battery removed, the time and date will need to be reset.
Also, in the BIOS for that board, you should be able to see temps. and rpm readings. ??

Before you plug in the drives and other devices, check temps. rpm and voltages.

Changeing a cpu is a simple process.

First step, remove the cables and open the case.
locate the cpu - heatsink

it debends on what kind of heatsink it has, simply turn the lever
or use a screwdriver to unhook the metal connector. If you don't have enought room you might need to remove the powersupply first.

handle the cpu with care, ones the heatsink is removed you can
pull up the lever next to the cpu to unlock it


now you can remove the cpu with your fingers by the edges.

place it in a safe location, and go ahead install the new cpu.
optionally apply some thermalpaste and attach the heatsink
and the power connector for the heatsink fan.

you are done.

THERE WILL BE A PUSH LEVER , JUST LIFT IT SLOWLY , THEN REMOVE YOUR CPU FAN AND NOW SLOWLY REMOVE THE CPU BY HOLDING ITS SIDES
