For the 12x36 the earlier version is bulkier, but has a wider field of view. Some say its optically superior, but both are among the best. The newer version is almost pocketable.
A number of other premium bino manufacturers have free no-questions-asked policy and more or less free repairs also for older binos, but not Canon. So be prepared to pay. Parts for the 12x36 I might not be available.
