Error code when running Apple Hardware Test

2STF/8/3:B (lower) error code when running Apple Hardware Test.  What does it mean?  Test won't let me go beyond this point.

  • Keesus Oct 29, 2007

After more research on other sites, this error does indicate a potential hard drive failure.  Thankfully, the drive is still functional, just making periodic noises and slowing down quite a bit.  I have 2 hard drives in my system, so with that, I used SuperDuper! to create a bootable back up and just switched my OS to the other drive.  OS is working fine on the second drive (which DID pass the extended hardware testing).  Time to shop for a new drive!

Thank you for your response and help.

Ran AHT on my G5 with a similar error code as Keesus. Under the category Mass Storage - error detected, error code 2STF/8/A (upper). The test was terminated at that point. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Its an issue with the hard drive in the lower slot. The volume may be corrupt of the drive could be physically damaged. Did you install the bottom drive? is it the drive with the OS installed?
