Please install JRE(java runtime environment) and then enable activex controls. dont worry. they r not harmfull.
Switch browsers, try using firefox instead of ie. Firefox runs faster and is better.
Otherwise, after enableing active x, redownload java http://www.java.com/en/download/inc/windows_upgrade_xpi.jsp and see if that made a difference.
