Printer Problem Printer light flashes orange 15 times. When I open the ink cover, the yellow ink cartridge light is not lit. I have removed the ink cartridge which looks full (printer only purchases on 28 August 2007) and replaced if. The light on the cartridge then comes on. I have then shut the ink cover and I can hear the ink cartridges move along the carriage. The orange light then begins flashing 15 times. I have repeated the process many times but nothing changes. Please advise me of what else I can try.

    same exact problem here
just bought off newegg 4 months ago.
it says magenta is low, its not, its almost full.
Reset printer by pulling power, reseated ink tanks, no luck.
This is the ink that came with the printer.

    Dear tom19511!

Please write down what canon says, because I tried to find answer on that page you suggest, but the page isn't working, because "KnowledgeBase is temporarly not available".

    Thanks

Power light flashes 15-16 times and when you open the cover the magenta cartridge is not lit. Removed cartridge and it was full of ink. replaced cartridge and light came on. Closed cover and power light flashed 15-16 times. tried powering down but same result. Manual says replace cartridge or disable sensor function. Have not tried disable sensor yet.

    Bought new iP4300 24 Aug 07.
2 Oct 07, after printing a few dozen pages total from new, 15 flashes & big black cartridge "not recognized" & no LED.
This is new original cartridge supplied with printer & contacts etc never fingered.
Removing & reinstalling sometimes worked but finally not.
Canon changed for new printer under guarantee 10 Oct 07.
Second printer 15 flashes 19 Nov 07 & blue cartridge not recognized & no LED.
Again this was new Canon cartridge supplied with new printer & contacts not fingered. Cartridge hardly used.
Remove & reinstall cleared problem one time.
    22 Oct 07 - 15 flashes & blue cartridge again.
Remove & reinstall cleared problem so far...
Contacted Canon for help & am waiting for their reply.

Yes I am having the same problem. I bought the 4500 pixma in September. It was an Apple incentive with iMac purchase. I have repeatedly removed the magenta cart and replaced it. The light illuminates again once I do this, but then I gat the same empty tank error all over again. It really blows that it will not work for B&W only, until this can be solved.

  • Fryerdan Nov 29, 2007

I have the same exact problem. It has happened on both black cartridges and the yellow one.

  • Anonymous Dec 04, 2007

I hate this printer. My page black is never recognized. What a waste of money!

  • Anonymous Dec 06, 2007

I have the same problem with yellow. Have been using it for about a month seldomly and once in a while got the ink tank error message. I click the tank back in so the light goes on but in a second it's out again. Brand new cartridges and everything! Came with the printer so they shouldn't be the wrong model. Now I've been getting the error every single time and NOTHING HELPS. Not reset, replace, anything. It's completely useless.

More specifically, I have a Mac and am getting Error number: 1412. Ink tank errors have occured.

  • 2CV67 Dec 13, 2007

Following my last post - Canon told me to remove & replace the cartridges & the head, but this did not work. I took the printer back to the shop who sent it to Canon. Canon just sent me another new one (number 3 now...).
So far it works fine, but for how long?

  • Anonymous Dec 18, 2007

I'm having the same trouble with the yellow. I've only had this printer a couple of months. It flashes 15 times. I open the top, take the yellow tank out, have NEVER touched the chip. Snapped it back in. I got it to work one more time, and now it doesn't work at all. The yellow is still completely full of ink. It's the ink that came with the printer. So will it work if I buy a brand new yellow ink tank? Or is it a problem with the printer itself? I bought this after doing a lot of research and only heard raves about it....and now this. Any suggestions?

  • AngelF Jan 03, 2008

Yes, same problem here with magenta cartridge. I also had this happen with the black cartridge. The cartridges are installed correctly, I have tried powering down/unplugging USB. Magenta cartridge ink is full.

  • Anonymous May 30, 2008

I have the same problem only with the black (BK) cartridge. The printer and the ink tanks are brand new and the ink cartridge in question is full.

  • floggit Jun 16, 2008

  • Anonymous Mar 17, 2014

I am having a hard time getting the ink cartridges back into the printer.

  • Anonymous Mar 21, 2014

changed ink cartridges and now printer screen says "cover is open" and will not do anything.

  • Anonymous Mar 23, 2014

Please help Orange light flashes 5 times, all the tanks are full but the red LED on each tank in lite. When powering up the ink carriage moves along to clean head ok but will not print. Is this a worn head?
