Automatic flash problems

The flash won't pop up automatically and when you manually put the flash up, it still won't flash

Press that flash button to manually get the flash out, there is a small black button that is probably pressed down press it down slowly and it should come back up, be hella careful though- i solved the problem this way on mine but only after some of the memorable moments that i wanted to record had passed, but in my utter stupidity i once pressed that small black button and it completely went down so make sure you dont do this. If u can buy a digital slr. Canon should've fixed this!

I have the same problem as Irichard, in that the flash won't pop up automatically, the camera wont work when you pop it up manually all all modes that allow flash photography do not work.
