Sounds like you may have hit a rock or log which shears the pin on the crankshaft to save the engine. It's a simple job to check the crank shear pin and see if it sheared and its a simple job to replace it. Youtube videos should show the process.

I would suggest the following:
1. Either clean or replace the spark and make certain that the gap is correct;
2. Check the ignition wire for breaks or cranks, if found, replace the ignition wire; and,
3. Add about one (1) oz of carburetor cleaner to a full tank of gas.
