I get a "virtual memory is low" error message. How do I correct

When I purchased the pc desktop it had an older version of windows. I installed windows xp. when I turn on the pc it shows 2 incidents of xp. I think I installed it twice. How do I get rid of it and would that use or cause the error message "virtual memory is low". just before it knocks me off?

You have two different & independent problems. I will solve them one by one.

First of all, for increasing VIRTUAL MEMORY you should Right Click on "MY COMPUTER" then choose "Properties", then goto "Advanced" tab and then in "Performance" frame click "Settings" and then again goto "Advanced" tab and there you will see a "Virtual Memory" frame and then click on "Set" and increase the size of your virtual memory.

Second problem is due to installing many instances of XP. You can re-format your whole drive again and you will enjoy a fresh & single copy of XP again.

if you finds any difficulty or any doubt is there then feel free to contact me again.

If this solution was helpful to you then please rate 100% (or FIXYA) for this solution, otherwise don't rate at all. It was my pleasure helping you.
With regards,
Shyny Saxena

Virtual memory is low because you have alot of programs loading in the background. Your best course of action is to try to get into windows and save any important documents and pics you need.

then go ahead and with your operating system cd, boot up off of the cd and when you get to the part where it asks you where you want to install windows, go ahead and delete the partitions.

There will be only one partition at that point. Go ahead and chooose the partition and let windows install at that point. After the installation is done then you won't have to choose which version of XP cause there will be the only one. Also make sure you have your utilities and drivers cd for installing your hardware as well.

Let me know how it goes and I'll help you even further.
