Lenovo g550 laptop with an external monitor only displays on broken original screen after crash dump

I have a lenovo g550 laptop with a broken screen, and use an external monitor (usually an lg flatron 1215s and sometimes an al1917c acer one). My computer went into crash dump a day after I installed and uninstalled a program called spybot search and destroy, so I ignored the blue screen msg (big mistake due to panic), and tried removing spybot once when I managed to reach the desktop. This happened a couple of times, and I think I managed to remove all of the program, before the blue screen came up again. This time though my computer couldn't display on my external lg monitor- only on my original and broken screen, which is completely unusable (I can only see shaped and flickering lights). It might also be useful to mention that a day before these crash dumps I had installed a new nvidia driver. I tried all the hotkeys and closing the lid right after starting the computer, but so far nothing has worked. My computer is still working (I can hear the fans and see a change in the colour patterns) and the external monitor worked when I tried connecting it to another computer, so what is the problem?

Probably the installation of spybot on your machine caused all this. Its not a big deal though as it may sound. This has corrupted the Display drivers on your system and that is why it can not be able to display on your external through the VGA port. You will also see that even a projector, would have trouble picking up the display, this is all because of a corrupt VGA (Display) driver.
Go to Lenovo official website and go to the Support tab and search for your product model and check the download for your drivers under your model. Install the driver and make sure that you restart soon after the installation

thanks, but is there a way to do this without needing the computer screen- like downloading it on another computer, burning it on a disk/using a usb key? cause the installation part sounds like it might require a working screen, which as i said i don't have on my broken laptop :/

SOURCE: Lenovo G550 (2958-ACU) the display is scrambled/folded

Your computer uses Onboard graphics(Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 4500MHD) which means the GPU is embedded into the motherboard. The problem is most likely to be the GPU as you have predicted. If your laptop is under warranty you should push for a replacement as opening it will void your warranty. However if its out of warranty then you will need to remove the keyboard to access it. Check for bad connectors from the video card. Unplug the connectors wipe them with a cloth and then plug them back in. Power up and see if it resolves the issue.
NOTE: TO AVOID DAMAGING THE BOARD COMPONENTS WITH ESD AN ESD WRIST STRAP IS MANDATORY FOR THIS FIX .

Hope this helps,
Sai.

SOURCE: Hi guys, I have strange problems with my Lenovo

Sounds like the video driver is corrupt and needs reinstalled. Stop 0x050 with NV4_mini usually is driver problems. First, boot hitting FF8 several times a second Choose VGA mode on the black and white screen System should come up although the video will be poor. Go to Lenvo and download the drivers for your video card (http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/default.page?) Install the drivers Restart All should be well
I do this for fun & 4 thumbs not $$$$
