YES THE AC ADAPTOR WAS THE BEST SOLUTION! SORRY FOR THE CAPS BUT IF YOU CANNOT FINALIZE A DISC, PLUG IT IN!!!
Make sure the dvd that you are using are dvd-rw formats
I had a similar problem of finalizing with a canon, but when I bought a new mini dvd rw, the function came back and I could finalize again. This ,however, were only for a few disk. I can not finalize now.

This is true, must be plugged in, but this not always works.
We hooked up the camera to a DVD recorder which was cheap and transfered all data to a full size disc.
We STILL can not finalize our discs.

Very disappointed in this camera.
my canon 210 can't finalize the VR MODE video because the finalize menu are disable.
but after i put the ac adapter into my camcorder the finalize option now can be choose, but remember after you finalize the video, it can't be edited by the camcorder and the dvd now can be read at any dvd player/rom and you can even copy the folder to PC for editing.
remember some camcorder need ac adapter to plug in to make some major process to be done, why? rendering the video to other format take large resource from the machine.

You have to plag in the ac adapter - then the finalize option appears - good luck!!

Make sure that the camcorder is plugged into the dc outlet, ie- plugged into the wall you can't finalize a disc just using the battery pack for the camera
