I have a Sharp mini component system. The CD function says TOC Reading when I try to play a CD. A few seconds after it says Can't Read. I am not able to use a CD disc cleaner.

I am assuming it fails on multiple CDs right? Why can't u use a CD disc cleaner? Otherwize u have to get access to the laser with a Q tip.

SOURCE: denon seperates

The most likely cause of this problem is the laser is becoming weak. You may be able to get a bit more service out of it by manually cleaning the laser with a cotten bud and some alcohol. However the only real solution is to replace the laser assembly.

It depends on how good at taking things apart and putting them back together you are, weather you should try this yourself. The laser assemblies often have the part number on the side of them, if not you will need to contact Denon who may tell you what it is if you are lucky.

Almost all laser assemblies come fully clibrated and all you need to do is remove the old one and replace it with a new one. You can get the parts from CPC in the UK unfortunately I don't know about other countries.

SOURCE: Sharp BA2100 3 CD mini component system - NO DISC

This is a relatively common problem when the optics get dirty. If you can reach the lens, try cleaning it using a cotton swab and alcohol. Don't bother with the "cleaning discs" available as all they can do is bruch off the dust. These lenses sometimes get a smoke or dirt film on them that the brushes can not celan.

Keep us posted.

SOURCE: when i inserted my mini disc it said TOC Reading

Sounds like you lost power when you were finishing recording a disc. On a home unit it got unplugged before you had the TOC written, or on a battery unit the battery died when it was writing the TOC (table of contents) for the disk.
