1. A Broken Thermal Fuse (Most Common): Deep inside, right next to the metal heating plate, is a tiny safety fuse. It is designed to cut all power if the iron overheats, but these fuses are incredibly fragile when it comes to physical impact. The shock of the fall likely snapped the tiny element inside it, instantly cutting all electricity.
2. A Snapped Internal Wire: The drop can easily snap the heavy electrical wires right off their internal metal connections or screws inside the handle casing, completely disconnecting the main cord from the rest of the iron.
3. A Jammed "Auto-Off" Sensor: If it's a modern model with a safety automatic shut-off feature, there is a sensitive sensor inside that detects movement. The hard fall could have jammed that sensor into the permanent "kill switch" position.

Check the power label on the unit to see if it is indicating a higher requirement than what your circuit breakers and house wiring is rated for. I have seen some professional equipment indicating 20 amps, and the house power was rated to 15 amps maximum. In this case an electrical contractor had to be called in to replace the wiring and and circuit breaker to meet proper specs. This is expensive!
If the unit is rated under the house power available and the breaker is tripping, then there is obviously a defect in the device and service is required. I have seen heating elements go partialy shorted, or there were thrmostat faults and the device was overheating.
