It's probably a corrupt file. Probably the first one in your library.
What you need to do is go into the library and quickly delete that file.
You need to press delete and confirm before it has had time to notice the file is corrupt.
I think it's green then blue, might be blue then green. I forget.
BTW, If anyone out there knows how to make use of the USB port on these things, can you let me know?

The part re the other channels having no signal....I had the same problem with mine and that was because the small loop cable in the back wasnt right. I could watch all channels, press record and still watch that channel but try to watch a diff channel while its recording and they were gone. As soon as I had the loop cable in properly it solved the problem. Hope this helps....

If you have no recordings and it's playing up, I'd do a complete reset as follows;
Restore Factory Defaults
This will restore all the factory settings and erase the contents of the box.
Menu>Set-up>Help>Green>Red
Format HDD
This will re-partition and re-format the hard drive.
Menu>Set-up>Help>Green>Blue
This will wipe everything you have recorded. It will also dump your 14 day Electronic Program Guide which will take upto a day to reload. Leave the unit on standby.
You might want to take this opporunity to do a channel scan as well.

Sounds to me like your hard drive is full. Do you use the topup tv part of the box? If not, deselect all the topup tv channels. This will free up a significant amount of drive. Failing that, you'll have to delete some of your programs, sorry!
To deselect topup tv channels;
Go into the menu option, Customise Top Up TV Anytime, and de-activate all the selected channels
