Screen my acer aspire 5100 is on but nothing comes onto the screen...

  • Anonymous May 21, 2009

My acer Aspire 5100's screen used to work perfectly until earlier today when I tried to install another operating system, which I do frequently. Mothing has ever happened to the screen. The only way I am typing this right now is by using an external monitor that works fine with it, but the internal display doesnt work now!!! the function keys do not do anything helpful with this problem. The only thing that does help (barely), is to unplug the external screen while it is being restarted, and then pressing the screen "trigger" to turn the monitor off (just in front of the keyboard), and that only worked once for me! WTF ACER?!
I also updated System Bios. Nothing changed.

On top of this my 5100-5455 also has no functioning drivers for the disc drive on windows vista (what came preinstalled on it), & the card reader works only half the time i would like it to. The keypad's left click button doesn't click anymore, & it is just turning to ****. CAN ANYONE HELP???

Replace the lcd inverter in the screen it costs about 25 dollars takes about 15 min. the aspire has 4 screws holding the screen togetether unscrew then carefully unsnap the screen front off start at top and work your way down the lcd inverter serves as a kind of ballast to the backlights or the probelem can also be the backlights themselves

Try hitting the Function key and then whichever key on your keyboard swaps monitors. On mine, it is Function + F8. Also try hitting the little switch a few times that gets pressed when you close the lid.
