I had a problem with a short circuit that burned my ac adaptor, since then my XR-1 Laptop does not work on battery power. It charges and recognises the battery and works fine on ac power with the new power adaptor i purchased, but as soon as i unplug it, it turns off. I am wondering if it has a fuse or something that prevents it from working on battery power but have no access to a diagram.

This condition can be caused by plugging in an adapter that has polarity reversed (that's what I did with an after-market power supply). Your battery is probably not bad (I changed to a brand-new battery, and it still had the same problem). However, the problem is deeper: I'm tracking down which component on the power board was burned out when this happened. No luck so far.

You may have fixed only half the problem, the reason your adapter burned could be because the battery was drawing an excessive amount of current that led to it short circuiting. The battery may be defective as well.
