When using CB single sideband... should I be able to pick up the same signals on AM or visa versa. If not, why would that be happening?

Yes and no. You will have to tune your clarifier and you should be able to tune out the loud am signal and hear it unless a person on the am side is 1k or more off. Unless you have a unlocked clarifier. For more information on unlocking it you can go here... https://www.angelfire.com/wv2/whiskeyvictorydx/clarifiermods.html I dont know what model you are using but this will give you some more info. Also, you wont be able to understand side band on am but you can tune in some am stations on side band. Now their is a way to get double side band which is called am side band....i wont get into that but you can view a little about that here.... https://youtu.be/gEB7JEX3wg4

check the swr on the antenna, if you have the wrong antenna, it wont work
