I too HAD this problem but, thank-god (today/Jan.26,2008) I found the solution to the - TIME & PRE-SET RADIO STATION - problem. I found this page: http://sanyoservice.com/osb2/showitem.cfm?sort=ItemID&isID=&Category=5&Unit=12&startpage=1&currpage=3&startrow=13
Then downloaded the PDF file of the closest model the - SLIM3010 & now my stereo works correctly once again!

Turn the system on and press the "Clock/Timer" button (located above the eject button for Deck 1). The clock will appear. To change the time, simply hold down either the < or > buttons (the ones you use to change radio stations and begin CD/tape playback). Press "Clock/Timer" again to lock in the time.
Hold down the button on the unit that says "clock.timer", right under the clock. After holding it down for a couple of seconds, the display will read "select clock or timer". Let up the button and click it briefly again to show the blinking clock. Use the fast forward and rewind buttons to change the hour, the previous chapter/next chapter buttons right below them to change the minutes. After you've set the time, click the clock button once more to lock the time in.
Hold down the clock button until it flashes and then use the arrow keys to change time
I think you have the wrong model. The PolyConcept/RCA Chaplin
841.670 does not have a clock in it (at least mine does not).
Withe the unit in the OFF position, play around with the 'set' button. It's the little square button on the left side, above the left tape deck, to the left of the 'clear' and 'play'. The hour will blink, to set it, press the arrow buttons to the right: 'down' and 'up'. When the hour is to your preference, hit 'set' again, and it'll go to minutes. Use the arrows again. 'Set' again returns the unit to normal.
With power restored, the clock re-sets to 00:00 and blinks. That's normal. use the tape/CD fast forward button to set the time. Hold down to increase the time quickly, release. Then tap the fast forward/ fast reverse buttons to increment up or down.

Setting the Clock The timers depend on the clock: the clock must be right for the timers to work as you expect. You can set the clock whether the Unit is on or off. Note that the clock must be set, otherwise the timers cannot be set. 1. Press the SHIFT button. 2. Press the 1 CLOCK button. The “CLOCK” indicator on the display light up and the clock time blinks. 3. Press the SELECT 5 + or 4 – button to set the time. Pressing the 5 + button increases the time and pressing 4 – decreases the time. Pressing the button continuously advances or decreases the time in 10 minute intervals. 4. Press the 8 SET button. The blinking time display changes from a blinking display to a steady display and the clock timer starts from 0 seconds. CAUTION: If there is a power failure, the clock loses its setting. The display shows “0:00”, and the clock must be reset.
