File format is .mts and my computer doesn't read

Ihave a JVC GZ HD10 my problem is that the file format is .mts and my computer doesn't read it.When I rename to .avi the video quality is low and does not look at all like HD. I edit and create dvd's with Vegas and pinnacle so workable files are a must, but is it possible to keep quality by converting to a different format or do I need another camera?

Dear creativefor, there are three logical possibilities for your reference. The biggest consideration is the software or hardware you're using to watch the movies on.

If you plan on watching the video from your JVCFile format is .mts and my computer doesn't read - 2_bing.gif GZ HD10 using software like XBMC, VLC, etc., you should be fine either way; if you plan on using Power DVD, or another Blu-ray player software, you should stick to m2ts.

If you use a stand-alone device like a HTPC, Popcorn Hour or a Western Digital player, you'll probably have better compatibility with the mkv container .here I would like to recommend you to try this m2ts to mkv converter.

Here a short tutorial about how to do

Hello there,

Doing some research, I found several others having the same problem with the HD files. I found this site http://www.pavtube.com/mts-converter/ and it sells for $29 US and converts to several file formats. No need to look for a new camera.

Thanks for using Fixya.
