Dear creativefor, there are three logical possibilities for your reference. The biggest consideration is the software or hardware you're using to watch the movies on.

If you plan on watching the video from your JVC GZ HD10 using software like XBMC, VLC, etc., you should be fine either way; if you plan on using Power DVD, or another Blu-ray player software, you should stick to m2ts.

If you use a stand-alone device like a HTPC, Popcorn Hour or a Western Digital player, you'll probably have better compatibility with the mkv container .here I would like to recommend you to try this m2ts to mkv converter.

Doing some research, I found several others having the same problem with the HD files. I found this site http://www.pavtube.com/mts-converter/ and it sells for $29 US and converts to several file formats. No need to look for a new camera.
