It may be your power brick is failing to provide he proper voltage/amps.
Radio shack had an I-go they were closing out for 29.95 and it came with all the tips to use on several different laptops.
My compaq failed and it was the brick.
Actually the batrie hasa gone bad so when u use the adapter the current passes from the batriee as it is being charged when u plug in the adapter ............so......the green light is on....so actually u need a replacement of the batree so call hp 1800 no and ask them to benh the sys for free if u r in warrenty..if not then u need to pay around 200$ to send it to hp service center

Try putting the battery back in and start the laptop without the power supply, then, with it running , plug the power supply in and see if the light comes on.

Its not the battery, I haven't used it as a laptop in almost a year.
Just for the hell of it, I took apart the brick. What I found inside was not pretty. There was insulation spread everywhere (including the circuit board). You could see the effects of the overheat incluing a warped casing (metal), circuits on the board were badly corroded, and parts of the board itself were actually melted. Definately think I found the problem, thanks.
P.S. = Why does HP consider that proper shielding?
