Remove the four screws that hold the battery cover on the back of the watch. Remove the 3 very small screws that hold the battery in place. Remove the battery from the battery holder. The piece that the 3 small screws were removed from seperates from the 3 volt 2016 energizer battery. Replace the battery with a new one. Re-install the battery holder to the watch. There is a small tab on the lower left part of the battery holder that needs to be depressed to activate the watch. Depress it and look at the face of the watch to make sure it is activated. The watch will need to have the time, date etc reset but you should now be able to see that the battery is working. Replace the battery cover and reset the time and date as needed.

Some watches have crowns that screw in after being pushed home, is this the case with yours? If it is then that could cause the problem described. (Turn crown clockwise).

I looked at one or two of the Expedition instructions (the are a lot) but couldn't find any mention of a screw in crown.

I suggest that you go to Timex.com and at the bottom of the page is "manuals/downloads" select this and the "product manuals". Put your watch type in the search box to obtain your manual.

If you are still not able to solve the problem, the I suggest you take it back to a Timex dealer to sort it out.

Sounds like a broken main spring.

This is a fairly easy fix and may also be due for a cleaning and service.

Your watch sounds like a mechanical type (old).

Older watches rely on the hour hand passing 12 to re-set the date.

Wind your watch until the date changes and then turn the hands backwards passed 12 and then forwards again to advance the date again. How far you need to wind it passed 12 (in both directions) is something that you will have to find out by experiment.
