The control panel getting hot may be caused by the hindges on the oven door. I had my range serviced and when the door does not close all the way, then the hot air rises and basically cooks the control pad.
I just posted too with my frustration on this range.

Control panel seems to short out when temp reaches about 350. The exterior top of oven near panel feels very hot. After cool down oven is able to be restarted, apparently a control panel issue.
