You may get the error messages related to Codecs while playing any Videos in Windows Media Player or any other Application.
This issue might occur, if the Video Codecs are not installed in the Computer.
However, you may install all the required Codecs by downloading the K-lite Codec pack.
This package will have all the Video Codecs required by the Computer.

If you would like to try to get a codec, K-Lite Codec Pack is one of the most popular codec pack available in the market for various reasons: it counts with a great user-friendly interface for installation and its huge catalog of codec is regularly updated.

Also you could try some other free players that may include the format, such as Leawo Blu-ray Player and VLC.

Not able to watch DVD's or videos on your PC? No picture only audio?
Reason
If you're having a problem reading DVD's or video files on your PC the this is because you either don't have a media player installed on your system or that you don't have a recent or updated codec pack installed on your PC.

Codec update
Firstly lets get to the Codec pack. A Codec pack is a list of video decoding information that, when added to your systems codec library, reads and converts the code and instructions from the video clip to your video player. To be able to play new videos or DVD's you will need to have the latest Codec update available. You can get the latest codec pack here. All you have to do is click the Download [ K-Lite Codec Pack 6.9.0 Full ]. Once downloaded you will need to install it and you may need to reboot after the setup is complete. VLC Media Player comes with Windows Media Player Classic and a host of audio/video decoders needed to play any video or audio file.

A great Video/Media Player
If you don't have a media/video player installed then you should try this great media application I found on the net. It's called VLC Media Player and it can literally play ANY media file, especially HD videos that Media Player Classic can't handle, and the best thing is that it is totally 100% FREE. It can be found on the VLC website here.

If you want to customise your VLC media player you can, just head over to the VLC skins department and get the skin pack.

While playing video files, error shows File not supported. Audio Codec AAC not found.
Sounds like you need codecs. There are several codec downloads out there. I personally use K Lyte codec Mega Pack. Try googling it and download. Should solve the problem.

It wont play
look for a disk that came with your computer for DVD player software, most often the computer is missing the DVD or mpg4 codec, which can also be downloaded in a Codec pack for your operating system found on the web. If your using vista or 7 open the Media center, then locate your DVD in media center as it handles playback differently. if still no go, locate a codec pack and install it. A good one is called "Ace Mega codec pack"

Sound doesn't work on Sony Vaio VGN-sz480
I'm confused. A Codec is used in an audio player like Media Player 11. If your computer has no sound when it comes on then you need a driver. I looked up your model and found a Realtek driver speciafically for your machine. You can download this at: http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu-list.pl?mdl=VGNS460. If you need an Audio CODEC for your media player I would suggest downloading PowerDVD from download.com to insure that your system sound is working correctly then you can use the Microsoft CODEC installation package to determine the real missing CODEC.
