How can I eject a cd from my dell - Dell Dimension 5100 (D51L1) PC Desktop

There are three ways to eject a CD or DVD from your PC or a Laptop. The first is the eject button on the disc drive itself. If it is not working go to "my computer", in Vista it is just called "computer" and once it opens, find the drive (it should say DVD drive or CD drive, or something along those lines). Mouse over that drive, right click and then go down the drop down menu and click on eject. It should open unless the drive is broken. If the power is off or if the drive is broken then there is a small hole next to the eject button. Take a large paper clip, straighten at least half of it out and go straight into this hole. When you feel it stop, lightly press in further. You should feel a little springy presure for less than an 1/8 of an inch. It should, at that point, release the drive bay. You can then manually pull the tray out and retrive any disc that may be inside.

Try right clicking the CD drive in my computer and then click eject. If that doesn't work, look closely and you will see a tiny hole normally next to the eject button, sometimes there is just a grove. Take a straightened paper clip and insert it in that hole. This should open the drive. You may have to turn the computer off for this to work. If that does not work you will have to try prying it open with a butter knife. It may damage the drive but seems it is already damaged.
