Help please Hi my laptop packard bell easynote R4650 after about 20 minutes of use dies completely as if power has been removed ,It is worse when using alot of processsing power ie slide show of photos .Without really pushing the processor it will go for a couple of hours but eventually shut down.The fans are working and you can feel normal warm air it does not feel hot or overheated. you can restart straight away and it will work for a further 10 minutes and same again.progressivley getting quicker and quicker to shut down unitl you are unable to get past the normal windows boot up process through to desktop. A week before it started to do this the battery would show 100% charged but only give me 5 minutes of usage, but it still worked fine on mains. The battery does not charge at all now, not sure if this is related or unfortunate consequence. I have removed the battery pack just in case the battery itself was upsetting the laptop but run on mains it still just dies. There is no warning but is like i mentioned it is normally when you hear the fan slightly increase in level increaed processor use and boff it goes. I would like to order a spare part as my boyfriend would attempt a fix if somebody has the answer. help please cheers Louise

I have had the same problem with my r4650, you need to take your battery off and unplug the mains, undo the small latch on the back of the case (the one above the fan), you will see your fan, undo the three spring loaded screws that hold the metal heat sink, carefully pull the red/black wired plug from the connector, now remove the fan and heat sink assembly, on the bottom of the heat sink there should be either some silver foil or dry paste, clean this off to leave just the bare metal, now apply some new thermal paste (just enough to fill the crater). carefully align the three screw holes on the heatsink to screw holes on the board, screw the spring loaded screws backup a little at a time making sure it goes on evenly, plug your wire back in to the connector, and put your latch back on, hey presto working laptop, and its alot quieter than normal,

You may have a short in the power connector on the mainboard. Try wiggling where the power cord plugs into the notebook and see if it cuts out.

A glitchy power supply could do it, especially if it's putting out too much power, or does it when it warms up a while. When the notebook cuts out, leave the power supply plugged in and test it with a voltmeter, it should match the rating on the power brick. A reputable electronics shop or computer shop could test it also. Get a recommendation; stay away from any chain stores.
