Run a half test. While printing a few pages, open the cover, pull out the toner and look down at the paper. If you see the ghost images replace the toner. If you don't see the ghost images, replace the fuser.

The comment from Kasmodan2 is true it can the toner cartridge, but is most cases it is the fuser. I repair HP laserjet machines day in and day out to replace the fuser is easy.

  1. Turn power off
  2. Open cover at right hand side rear
  3. Remove data cable
  4. Open top cover remove toner cartridge and press button on right hand side and slide the right hand cover off
  5. Open the back cover and lower the door all the way down
  6. Remove the two silver screws
  7. Take out the paper tray as this will be easier to remove the back cover
  8. Pull the back cover from the bottom and should unclip be careful not to break this cover.
  9. Once open then you will see the fuser unit unplug the connections and remove the screws then slide out the fuser unit
  10. Refit the new fuser unit plug in all the connections and reverse the above process
  11. Turn machine on and test if all good the machine will work fantastic if there is a constant red light repeat above and check connections if still red light then the new fuser faulty and not heating up.
Hope this helps all of you
Thanks J

Sounds like the transfer roller or the fuser unit may be faulty. Look at the fuser to see if the roller surfaces are dirty. If so, replace the fuser.

Is it a ghost of the image or just a repeating defect? In the menu, there is a repeating defect information page that you can print out. Depending on the spacing of the defect, you can determine which component it is.
