A Tech agent had me uninstall Java.
Upon attempt to reinstall, when the reinstall is almost finished I get a "Java Setup" error pop-up:
"Error 1101.Error reading from file:
http://javadl-esd.sun.com/update/1.6.0/sp-1.6.0_06-b90/sp1033.MST. Verify that the file exists and you can access it."
This happens every time. I was able to install an older version of Java with no problems. But still can not update to latest version.
I downloaded a file frrom that link but now Windows XP SP3 can't open the file. sp1033.MST "Windows cannot open this file"
Going online to find the solution is no help.

I am using Sonar Le 6 midi/audio sequencing program with a Edirol UA-25 interface which came with Virual Sound Canvas as a soft synth. I recently upgraded my hardware to a faster system and Windows SP 3. Now, it's nowhere to be found? Do you have suggestions on how to get it to work?

Disconnect your internet. Then install. Works like a charm now. I had the same issues with Vista. :)
I finally got java to update 6v6 and 6v7 w/out having uninstall all previous versions. I downloaded both versions directly to my computer and disconnected from the internet. I first double clicked 6v6 to install, it wanted to connect to the internet but I didnt let it. 6v6 installed on its own beautifully and 6v5 was updated to 6v6 w/out removing my previous versions. So of course I was doubtful, so I restarted my computer. Then I double clicked 6v7 to install, it too wanted to connect to internet and I let it this time and I got the sp1033.mst error. I restarted again. I double clicked 6v7 to install, it wanted to connect to the internet again and this time I denied the connection by clcking cancel. And again 6v7 installed beautifully, no errors. I am now fully updated to 6v7, and I still dont know what that sp1033.mst file is because I still dont have it anywhere on my system.

its kinda stuped i cant even play runescape any more a mmorpg game it has more than 80mill player really and now i cant download the latest version i tryed to delete the older 1 but now i have a seriouse problem i cantdownload the old 1 even!

Could not find program "windows installer", so I copied the "sp1033.MST" file to the Java file BOTH C:\Program Files\Java (&) C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_04 Still no help doing the UPDATE.
I tried this: unregister, then register the Windows Installer Service.
Click Start > Run.
Type msiexec.exe /unregister and click OK.
Click Start > Run.
Type msiexec.exe /regserver and click OK.
Run the installation again. This should install the Windows Installer Service.
This fix also did not work, so I downloaded and installed the latest Windows Installer Service. Windows Installer Engine

Click Downloads on the upper right cornor of the home page.
Click DON"T Install
Find on page: (between the first two graphics, and under a light gray line.) Not the right operating system? Click: see all Java downloads

Click Windows XP/Vista/2000/2003 Offline. The File Download dialog box appears.
Choose the folder location. (Save the file to a known location on your computer, for example, to your desktop).
Click Save.
The Save As dialog box appears
I have the exact same problem trying to update java, I have 6up5 installed with no problems. but 6up6 I get hit with the famous error 1011 about the sp1033.mst file
i have downloaded the famous sp1033.mst file. now where do put it, and how do i link it to where ever it need to be for windows installer to link to it, or even the java update to recognize it
There is no sp1033.mst on the system, if you find one put it in C:\Documents and Settings\\Application Data\Sun\Java\jre1.6.0_07.
Otherwise just go to that folder and double click the jre1.6.0_07.msi and it will install fine.
