When a laptop overheats the CPU will shutdown, this is known as thermal overload. The laptop will not boot up until the CPU has cooled down. If this problem in not fixed then the CPU will eventually fail.
This problem is usually caused by a faulty fan or the fan and heat sink is clogged with dust.
Replace the fan if it does not spin freely and or remove the dust clogging the fan and heat sink.
