Laptops have a 2.5" hard drive, which is smaller than the regulardesktop PC HDD which is 1 inch bigger. Now, the older models have an IDE connection, where the newer models have a SATA connection, like yours. That's all you need to know about HDD, then you just have to choose brand and size that suits you (don't go too big as your laptop might not support it - check with the User Manual to the maximum size supported).
Having said that, it's easiers and cheaper to either try to delete your profile (you can do this by logging into a different account on your computer, Control Panel and then Accounts) and create another one or simply reinstall Windows OS on your laptop.
