my computer died and won't turn back on.... when i press the power button i get the power led light for a split second then it goes off... nothing else turns on such as the fan or hard drive... it will not

This sounds like a power supply failure inside of your desktop.
If you're good with a screwdriver, you can order a replacement power supply from Gateway and replace it yourself or you can take the desktop in for service.
On the Gateway web site support page, it provides you with all of the equipment installed within your desktop including the part numbers of the power supplies used.
The power supplies listed are:
Power Supplies

100889 - 300-Watt Power Supply

100929 - 300 Watt Bestec Power Supply

103563 - 300-Watt Power Supply
