control panel administrive tools computer management device manager any yellow? ! question marks or red x will tell you that you need to reinstall the driver/s
to do this right click on the ? x ! select reinstall driver
control panel admistrive tools ,computer management ,device manager scroll down universal serial bus controllers you should see a yellow question mark?
right click to reinstall drivers or
if you can see your usb but its not working
ports(com&lpt)right click update driver as for the internet flash dongle
go into control panel administrive tools computer management then select event viewer depending on what operating sytem you have this may vary
extend the events there you will see errors in red you will no what exactly what the error was and at what time it occured (whole pc shutdown)you might be able to uninstall then reinstall some of these files/software

I had a similar problem with a laptop.
First I'd go to the Intel website, download and install the latest USB related drivers, see if that works. If not, and this is where I come to my similar problem, It was the USB2 port or driver that was the fault. I diabled them in the management part of the windows software and carried on with USB 1.1 operations.
The second option used because it would have meant a new mother board.
