Logitech Webcam C600 web camera Logo
Anonymous Posted on Jan 13, 2011

Hi !! I bought a new Logitech C600 webcam. (Had the old STX communicate.) Uninstalled old one first. After all the software was installed I connected the C600. It worked well with Logitech VID, Skype, but will not completely setup the video portion in Windows Live Messenger. ver: 8, 14 build?? WLM just crashes at this point. Contacted Logitech and they say it is not their problem.. Contacted Windows Messenger and they gave me a lot of very long work arounds saying their maybe a corrupt file . So I did their uninstall and re install process and it still will not work. It will work only if I install it as a usb, uvc camera. Spent many hours on this problem 20 plus. Any Ideas?? Please help I'm 63 years old and not all that technical to go into the registry. Running windows XP SP3. Thank's Vern

Have done this at least 3 times and they (windows live support) had me do a complete uninstall before hand. When I reinstalled the webcam software I could not do a video setup in messenger. It did do the speaker and mic setup though. When it crashed it would give me a message that I had to upgrade to a newer version of windows live. Which I already had ofcourse.

It still is not working in WLM. I do the speaker setup, ok! I do the mike setup, ok! When I try the video setup I get a notice that WLM has to close. I also have in my programs windows live messenger. ver: 8.1 , I click on that and can get messenger to show up with an x on the task bar. I can setup the webcam alright in this version. But I cannot sign in . It asks me to download the latest version before I can continue. When I try to download it tells me I already have the latest version. I told you I have been going through this off and on for 2 weeks. I did everything that you said to do. I also did everything that messenger support said to do. I just will not work fully. I just had a video call with my brother in Baltimore using Logitech Vid. Everything went perfect. When I contacted Logitech last week it seems that's all they really cared about. That it works in their program!!!

If I return this webcam, say for a pro 9000, do you think it may have a little different software so it will work? Sincerely; Vern

By the way, first link you gave me is for Microsoft universal audio arch driver for HD audio. I did download that and ran it.

  • Anonymous Jan 14, 2011

I have done all that before. At least 8 times. I have uninstalled and reinstalled so many times I know it by heart. It does not work.

  • Anonymous Jan 14, 2011

Honestly , I know what you mean about giving up. That is why I searched out you guys. I had given up with windows live messenger support assistance. They could not help. And I did everything possible that they told me. Please answer my other question though. If I return this cam to Staples and purchase the Webcam Pro 9000, do you think it will be bundled with a more compatable software?

  • Anonymous Jan 14, 2011

The camera did work as a usb camera, with a windows driver. I don't remember if I tried it with only the logitech driver. Since last night I did some searching around and found a site that I could install an old version of WLM. Ver: 8.5 Beta, year 2007. So what I did was uninstall all WLM and reinstall 8.5 beta. the result is the camera is working with all yhe software. Also I don't get the continual requirement to download an update. So right now it is working with an old program. I do have sign in problems with WLM in order to get to my emal. probably cause I did not uninstall and reinstall the sign in assistant. But I am able to go to MSN home page and sign in. Please answer if you can help with buying a different cam, the PRO 9000.

Been there , done that, no good!!

I am not going through that for measly webcam. I don't think all my comments have gotton through. But i'm 63
and retired and a caregiver for MoM. So right now I have the cam setup on windows live msgr. ver:8.5 Beta. It seems to be working fine. Of course I have other inconveniences when I try to sign in for my emails. Have to do a work around through msn Hotmail. Its a long story. So right now it works! I really have not made my mind up on this cam yet. I may return it for another. the pro 9000 if it has different software version. WHEW!!!

Welcome to Fixya.

Sir, your problem seems the device not compatible with Live Messenger 8.14 version. I will like to suggest you to try once uninstalling this version and re-install newest version. Again check if all the plug ins like Adobe Flash player, java, net frameworks are up to date.

Let me know the result.

Have a nice day.

This is a know issue with Windows Messenger when working with webcams. I have worked with several similar issues and in most cases, uninstall and reinstall did the trick. But it's important to always install the latest version.
First of all, uninstall the Windows Messenger from your computer, restart your computer and then download and install this (Click Here), open the link and click "Download (1MB)", save it and install it. Once you double-click the downloaded file i.e."wlsetup-web", you see the following screens:

Click "Run"
Hi !! I bought - nonontech_233.jpg

Select only the "Messenger", click the other boxes to deselect them and click "Install"

You'll need to wait for few minutes until the installation is finished.

You'll see the "Done" button when completed. Click "Close" to complete the inHi !! I bought - nonontech_4.pngclose it.

How reinstall the camera (if it hasn't yet installed) and check whether it works or not.

Good Luck.

Thanks for using FixYa.

I would like to request you to please give it a try. This Windows Messenger is Version 14.0.8117.0416 and so I think this might be the issue with yours if there is no other issue/problem. I hope you understand.

If you wish to get another offline installer so that you can try, you can download it here (Click Here). I have been using this version for few weeks and it has been working well with this issue.

Let me know when you are done and don't forget to restart your computer before and after every uninstall or reinstall.

But before you reinstall, please run a system cleaning, this includes registry cleaning (if in case registry issues involve). Click here to check out the tutorial. It's a google doc, it'll open up in your browser's as a new page.

    Once again, Good Luck.

I am so sorry for the mistake with the first link. Here's the correct link (Click Here). I think there was a problem inserting the link, I am wondering how that link came into this. If you don't prefer my instructions, honestly I give up.

    Good Luck.

As far as I know, there's nothing wrong with this camera and is 100% compatible with Windows XP and Windows Live. If it doesn't still work with another version of Windows Live, there must be some kind of registry or other issues involve with this. There are still two more things you can try:

    1. Install only the device driver excluding the Logitech camera software. To do this, uninstall the software and reinstall the camera. As soon as you connect the camera to your computer, a "Found New Hardware" wizard should pop up, follow the onscreen instructions and install the camera or you can do it from the "Device Manager". I hope you know how to do these.

    2. Install the camera on another computer running Windows xp and see whether it works or not. If it works well with the Windows Live Messenger on another Windows XP computer, then it's clear that the problem is in your computer not with the Live Messenger or not with the camera. You better uninstall all the drivers and hardwares from your computer and install only the Camera and see if that helps.

There are many more things you can do with the registry or with the system files and tweaking the windows xp, but I can't give those instructions here as a small mistake with the registry could even bring fatal error or system failure which I will not be able to take the risk. I hope you understand what I mean.

These are the tips I have from my end with this issue. Thanks.

Ok. And about the Logitech QuickCam Pro 9000, there is no negative customers' review related to installation or software, only with it's Stand design. But unfortunately it's software is not optimized for Macs.

You can check out the review here (Click Here) and Here. I hope you already knew that it costs around $80.00 USD.

    Thanks.
