go to control panel > dosplay settings > click on the settings tab > click on the advanced button > c.ick on Monitor and tick the box that states "Hide Modes that this monitor cannot display > click the adapter tab > click on button "List all modes" This will list every resolution your monitor is capable of displaying.

If you are runnineg windowsXP goto control panel by catagory select appearence and things then display, setting, then under color select 32bit, if you are unable to select anythingother than 8 I recommend you go to DELLs website and download display driver for your system.
