Razr says insert SIM

1st my phone said insert SIM, I then took some on-line advice to get new batterie and charge on off all night. This did not work! I then tried to put my sim in another phone that phone worked but still said insert sim, however my husbands sim worked fine in my phone. This ruled out my phone being screwed up. Do you think my sim card is FRIED and how does this happen out of the blue if so?
