yes I have a cable box, connected by coaxial cable.

I think I inadvertently changed the player channel, and now cannot see anything on the screen when in VCR mode, and therefore can't change it back to 3

  • eva mayer Feb 12, 2011

Have no picture--not even blue screen, when VCR is turned on!!! It's a blurry grey.
I have a Sony tv (Wega?), but everything is on a wall unit, and I cannot get a view of what goes where!!!
sorry that I'm so technologically lacking :-(
Physical connections must be ok though, since it was working just fine originally, and I didn't touch anything on the actual units, only the remote control...

  • eva mayer Feb 12, 2011

    not at home right now
will be there around 3pm EST
Possible for you to call 203 348-5699 (Ct)
or for me to call you once I'm there???
Much easier ,and I don't have internet at home...

The solution was indeed most helpful, and BElectric stuck with me until everything was back in order :-)
    Many thanks!!!

Hi there,

It's likely that your connections are incorrect, or you are scanning for cable channels using the air/antenna scanning option. The cable channels will only be on channel 3 if your cable feed is connected directly to the DVD/VCR player or, if you are using a cable box, the cable box is connected to the DVD/VCR with a coaxial cable. If you are using any other type of connection (e.g. Composite (red, white and yellow plugs) the cable channels wont be on channel 3, they will be on an external input setting.

Please can you answer the following simple questions. This will help me to provide the correct solution to your problem.

1. Are you using a cable box?
2. If using a cable box, how is it connected to the DVD/VCR?

I may need to ask a few further questions, but I need the answers to the above before I can provide any relevant information on what the problem might be or how to set it up correctly.

Thanks,
BElectric.

Thanks for the information. I believe you may have accidentally switched the DVD/VCR to an external input setting and therefore cannot access the channels. Please run through the following instructions/checklist:

    1. Switch on the TV, DVD/VCR and cable box.

    2. Insert a disc in the DVD or cassette in the VCR and play it - make sure you can see the picture from the player on the TV screen.

If you are unable to see the picture on the TV screen, please skip the rest of the checklist and answer the questions below.

    If you have a picture . . .

    3. Stop the player (press STOP twice if playing a DVD)

    4. Press the "TV VIEW" button on the GoVideo remote repeatedly until the Display on the DVD/VCR shows either "Tuner", a channel number - or the picture from cable re-appears on your TV screen.

If this doesn't solve the problem, please could you answer the following questions.

    1. Can you see the picture from a DVD or video casette on the TV?

    2. Is the cable box also connected directly to the TV?

    3. Brand and model number of your TV

    4. How is the DVD/VCR connected to the TV.

    - Coaxial cable

    - Composite (red, white, yellow)

    - Both of the above.

    - Other - please specify

I apologise for all of the questions. I need to know exactly how everything is setup in order to figure out what the problem is. It's possible that you have changed a setting on the TV. If you can answer these questions, I can give you another checklist to run through.

    Thanks,

    BElectric.

    Hi there,

Thanks for getting back to me. It's not a problem that you are less techically minded - I'm sure you are very good at other things! I will have to work around that and provide instructions without using technical terms or asking technical questions.

My questions were simply in trying to understand exactly how your TV, DVD/VCR and cable box are connected as knowing this would assist me in telling you which buttons to press. As this is not practical, we will have to use an alternative method. This will mean a little more trial and error is involved - but it doesn't mean the problem cannot be solved!

It would help if we could get some kind or more immediate dialogue going. We can then do one thing at a time and you can report back to me at each step before we do anything else. This will help to avoid any confusion.

I will be available all day today and tomorrow. Please let me know when is a good time for you (and your local time zone) and we can do this 'live'. If this is not practical for you, I will prepare a list of instructions (not technical!) which you will need to work through carefully in your own time.

Prior to this, please can you do the following and then answer my question below.

    1. Switch ON the TV, DVD/VCR and cable box.

    2. Press the "TV VIEW" button on the GoVideo remote slowly and repeatedly 6 times.

    Q. Does anything change on the TV screen or is it still always blurry grey.

Don't worry - we'll figure it out. The test above and the answer will tell me most of what I need to know.

    Thanks,

    BElectric

OK. I will call you at around 3pm CT. I am not supposed to do this but I would like to help you resolve your problem - and it is at your request - so I will make an exception. As you have no internet at home, it's going to be very difficult to resolve this otherwise due to the speed at which we can exchange messages. It should be fairly quick to resolve this by phone. I'll Speak to you later. BElectric

No problem at all - it was a pleasure. Let me know if you have any further problems.

    Kind regards,

    Nick / BElectric
