The two leads that interrupt the signal to the speakers when the jack is plugged stay open. You'll need to open the unit and inspect to see if they are bent away from each other.
Hate to say it, but possibly a blown speaker. To check this, do the following -
Step 2:
Insert headphones into jack to verify for sound there.
Step 3:
Unplug unit and open rear panel to reveal speakers.
Step 4:
Remove leads from woofer.
Step 5:
Using a multimeter, set to OHM (horseshoe) to lowest setting.
Step 6:
Apply red(+) and black(-) to speaker leads. Meter should read at least 4-8 ohms of resistance.
Step 7:
If no reading, then voice coil is blown.
Step 8:
If no meter available to use, the use a 9 volt battery by applying direct connection to speaker leads in an off-and-on fashion - You should hear a "click" sound come from speaker. If no "click," then speaker is blown.
Step 9:
If click is heard, and resistance on meter is correct, then the amp circuitry leading to the woofer may be blown = repair needed.
Assuming the pedal itself was put together correctly, check lead dress and see if there may be any stray metal bits shorting traces, and then look at the power supply. Try a different supply and see if the pedal works. If pedal does not, and the supply you are trying is good, look for wiring that may be incorrect or broken from when you opened it up. You may need a meter to make sure polarities are correct if you removed any wires from their connections. Also look at the possibility the movement of your inspection may have been enough to make a marginal solder connection fail totally. It happens, the RoHS compliant solders do not wet leads as well as the old lead/tin solders did. Just reflow the solder joints.
But, the power supply is a good candidate for a failed electrolytic capacitor. The offending caps may be bulged or leaking.
First thing to test: Do all the controls vary their function smoothly or does say the volume control vary the output only slightly. If the latter condition exists I would open the pedal and look for broken solder around one lead of the volume pot. The broken solder is hard to see... look for a little grey line on the menicus of the solder filet around each lead. Also look for cracks in the circuit board. Use a bright light.
1. It is noisy. Get some CRC226 in the electrical dept of Home Depot and open unit and spray a small amount into the control through the back side where the leads go into the pot. You may need to bend the spout of the CRC226 can to get it into the slot. Turn the pot back and forth to distribute the product on the resistance element inside.
2. The solder of the leads of the control has broken. Resolder these leads.
Often the bypass contacts on the FX insert jack fail to close. These jacks are really poor and after plugging in a plug several times the bypass switch contact becomes sprung so as to not make good contact causing symptoms like yours.
Open the unit and inspect the jack. You can bend the contacts to tighten them BUT they will fail again.
Externally sometimes you can make a short jumper cable to connect the preamp out to the PA in to bypass the failing contacts.
On an insert jack, you can just wire a TRS plug tip to ring and plug it in.
