Hi! To replace the type Q bags simply insert bag and slide behind tabs. Then, slide locking tab to right to seal bag to the unit. I have also included a link to the owner's manual where you can see pictures of how to change the bag if needed.
Were these generic bags or Hoove brand? Also, I believe that some bags have a rubber seal on the inside of the hole to attach. I hope this helps. Type A is the correct one.

On most types there is a bayonet type fixing - 2 lugs that line up with 2 slots in the bag seal plate.
You usually need to rotate the bag 45 degrees to push the lugs into the bags plate, then rotate it so the bag is upright again.
This locks it in position.
When you have it working - clean the outer bag outside, as it will continue to throw dust out unless clean.
