I cannot get the printer Canon MX870 connected to the computer network. I am running windows XP I have it connected to the home router but when I put in printer name while adding the printer on the computer laptop it does not recognize the name of the printer. Thank you in advance.

You cannot just add network printer on Windows XP without the printer software. You can only install it on Windows 7 with no software.

You need to get the canon MX870 software and run it on the computer you want to print files from. 'Before you do it, make you have already setup the printer to connect to your router and also make sure that it is connected to your router before you run the software.

Select Windows XP (NOT WINDOWS XP 64) then download and install the first file "mp68-win-mx870-1_04-ea24.exe" Run it and it will show you options. Choose setup wireless there you go! Make sure you are connected to the-same router the printer is connected to.
