Is there water in it? are all the components secured closed? is there heat coming from the burner?

Leave the carafe off the hot plate and place the basket in holder with the lip under hinged flange so it sits flat. Then replace the carafe and the basket should not move up when the Pause and Serve button opens. I just bought this pot too and
love it but except for the basket placement problem.

Hello. I need to know if you have an automatic unit, or a pourover. The pourover will not have a timer at all. The difference is you have to pour the water in to get coffee out, an automatic would be connected to a water line, and you just push a start button. If it is an automatic unit, there has to be a timer somewhere to adjust the amount. Hmm. Better late than never. Just got home with ours. Same problem. Called Cuisinart 800 number. Catch is on top of handle. There is a slight lip on each side there. Pop it up with pressure on both sides simultaneously. To replace, line up lid carefully with top of carafe and press firmly until it pops back on.
