Connect printer to usb

Please tell me how to connect the printer to a USB Port. My computer does not have a parallel port. I bought a usb to IEEE 1284 parallel printer cable but the parallel end still does not fit into the printer cable.
Thanks
Lalitha

I apologize for the delay in responding to your inquiry. I have researched this matter for you, and then typed a fairly lengthy solution. For some reason, just before it was to be posted it disappeared. (We have to love these PC's, right?)

At any rate, the connector on the printer is known as a mini- or micro-concentric parallel connection; therefore, you will need an IEEE-1284 premium mini-concentric parallel cable. This reference is posted merely for you to see the particular cable, and should not be interpreted as an endorsement of any kind concerning the vendor. http://sewelldirect.com/ParallelCableMiniCentronics6Foot.asp. In order for the IEEE 1284 end of the cable to attach to a USB port, in this instance, would require an adaptor to convert the parallel to a USB connector of the proper type and size. In fact, given that I do not know the remaining specifics of your system, and so that you will gain familiarity with the various adaptors, I would suggest that you take a look at this page: http://sewelldirect.com/search.aspx?searchTerm=usb+parallel+adaptor.

Again, please do not construe my posting of this vendor's pages as an endorsement of any sort, as I have had no experience with them whatsoever. The references are posted here simply for your review.

If this information assists you in resolving the problem, please take a moment to rate the solution at a "FixYa" level. If you do not feel that you can rate at a "FixYa", please post back with more information regarding what has occurred subsequently and/or more details regarding the situation, and I will gladly help you until we have reached a definitive solution. Thank you for using and rating FixYa!

Was there additional information that you needed in order to feel that we have reached a FixYa rating level? If this information is lacking in some way, please let me know and I will attempt to provide you with more. I realize that the pages I referred you to include a large number of photos; however, I wanted to give you a sense of the number of options available, and the choice of how you wanted to connect, as we do not have the information regarding your basic computer system in order to make further recommendations...

Thank you for using FixYa, and pleas post back if I may be of further assistance to you.
