Hello larahersc. The first thing you need is a level of course. You will want it level from front to back, and side to side. Some units have self adjusting back legs. If you have the owner's manual, it will probably tell you if they are. If your machine is in a tight place, I would pull it out and do the rear legs first. The legs are usually in the shape of a nut for adustmen. You can turn them easily with an adjustable wrench (the kind with the little wheel for adjusting)
Anyone can level an appliance once they know how, but where people go wrong sometime is that you need the unit to have a low center of gravity. Meaning you want it as low to the floor as it will possibly go and still be level.
Start in the back and make sure that they are level from side to side. Just lay the level sideways for this one.
Next go to the front legs and do one at a time. I think the best way is to lay the level from front to back but on one side or the other, leveling the front legs with the back.
Once you're finished, recheck your work making sure everything is okay. If not make the necessary adjustments and you're done.
I really hope this was helpful to you.
thanks,
Mike
Most units are "self leveling". Try tilting the unit forward, then set it back down on the rear legs and that should do it.
